album of the day: Ben Folds Five – The Unauthorized Biography of Reinhold Messner

Song Recommendations: Your Redneck Past, Regrets, Narcolepsy, Don’t Change Your Plans, Magic

This was the fourth and final studio album of Ben Folds Five, before the band went their separate ways. According to Wikipedia, the album title referred to a name that the band’s drummer Darren Jessee used on fake ID’s as a teenager. Apparently there is a real Reinhold Messner, a “famous” mountain climber (I used quotes, because is there really ANY famous mountain climbers, really. C’mon.). They didn’t know this until the album was almost complete. Messner later contacted the band to let them know that he was highly pleased with the album. Kinda funny. Like most Ben Folds material, this album is fantastic. A shame they broke up, but Ben Folds made up for it with Rockin’ The Suburbs. The follow-up Songs for Silverman was so-so, but in a few weeks we will get a new tast with his newest album, Way to Normal. Until then check out some pre-solo-career material. Check it out!

Enjoy!
