Song Recommendations: Human, Spaceman, The World We Live In, Losing Touch, A Dustland Fairytale, Joy Ride

Hi. My name is Christian. This is an album review. I feel like I need to do that because its been forever since I last sent out an album of the day. I’m sure you’ve been sad, but you will be sad no more!! So we’ve got new music from The Killers!!! One of my favorite bands, for some reason. They are. I guess whenever I seriously consider going online, to buy one of their t-shirts without seeing them live, I consider them a fav. I was however, at first, seriously dissappointed with Sam’s Town. It grew on me, but for some reason The Killers thing, is to have at least one incredible song and release it 3 months before the album is released (basically tease you). When You Were Young was probably one of the coolest songs I had heard in a really long time, so I was super-stoked for Sam’s Town. Unfortunately, what felt like 6 months of waiting for the album, got my expectations way too high. So of course, in the same fashion, Human was released a few months back and I was sold (not like I was with When You Were Young). This time they drop Spaceman on us like a month later. WHAT?! THIS SONG IS GOOD TOO! THIS ALBUM IS GONNA BE INCREDIBLE!!!!(here we go again) Well here it is. Day & Age. Notice, I’m not typing in all caps, so I guess you can sense my reaction. Now again, its not bad, but its just not “INCREDIBLE”, which I got in my head (yet again) that it was gonna be. Oh well. At least it’s new music. So check it out!

Enjoy!

Song Recommendations: Better Man, Immortality, Last Exit, Corduroy, Nothingman, Whipping

Pearl Jam’s third, and I must say last “great” studio album (although I think great might be too strong of a word). Yield was OK, but Vitalogy marks the end of the albums I’ve actually kept. It’s third on my list with Ten being second, and my favorite being Vs., But that’s just me people. The first two were the best by far, but Vitalogy definitely has its share of good tunes. All my recommendations are great songs. I love that they did some slow ones (Nothingman & Immortality). And plenty of hardcore Pearl Jam tracks like Spin The Black Circle, Whipping, Las Exit, Corduroy and Not For You. Great songs. OK, maybe this album is great. The thing I don’t understand is the waste of space in the two tracks, Bugs and Hey Foxymophandi… whatever it is. What is the point of these tracks. Experimental? BS. I mean what is the producer like: “OK guys we need two more tracks, so, why don’t you guys go do some drugs and we can lay down something. I’ve got this accordian and these recordings from an old psychiatric hospital, so I’m sure we can put something together that will make people want to kill themselves”. I don’t know what that’s about, but its a trend on a lot of mid-90’s alt-rock albums. But other than those tracks, this album is pretty, well, great. So check it out!

Enjoy!

For Yesterday

Song Recommendations: The Distance, Open Book, Frank Sinatra, Nugget, I Will Survive, Daria

I think I used this the last time I put one of this band’s albums up, but WHO DOESN’T LIKE CAKE? Really? I won’t go into it like I did last time, but I’ll just say this one word: funfetti. There. It’s said. Anyways, this is MY funfetti of Cake albums. All of their albums are good, but this one has the best “icing”. OK this is sounding stupid, so I will stop. Just a great collection of songs. And to think this came out in the mid-90s. This sounded like no other band out there, and pretty much still does. “The Distance” is probably my favorite Cake song overall. Both “Frank Sinatra” and “Open Book” have incredible head-bobbin’ intros. Nugget is an explicit yet excellent song for venting frustration. Include a pretty humorous chorus about a golddigger in “Italian Leather Sofa”. Tag in a Gloria Gaynor cover of “I Will Survive” and you’ve got yourself one heck of an album. So check it out today!

Enjoy!

1. Cary Pierce – “Absence Of Love”: This guy was in Jackopierce, of which I was quite a fan of in my teens. This is one of his better solo songs.
2. Coldplay – “Daylight”: One of my favorites off the fantastic album, A Rush Of Blood To The Head. Reminds me of like a spy movie.
3. John Lee Hooker – “Mama, You Got A Daughter”: Cool, old bluesy classic. Actually reminds me of Van Morrison’s “Baby Please Don’t Go”. Probably some inspirations there.
4. Meiko – “Reasons To Love You”: Not sure where I got this track, but I was reading it was on Grey’s Anatomy, so there ya go.
5. Dr. Dog – “The Rabbit, The Bat & The Reindeer”: This band is so cool. They sound like they are from like 30 years ago. I love the title. Fun song.
6. The Ramones – “Judy Is A Punk”: This one was stuck in my head this morning for some random reason. Judy IS a punk. I know.
7. Kings Of Leon – “Manhattan”: This song kindof gives the feel of their entire new album. Just cool. Not their usual sound, but cool.
8. Genesis – “Land Of Confusion”: I heard the Disturbed cover of this song a few months back, and inspired me to download this classic Genesis tune.
9. Voxtrot- “Firecracker”: Another one I have no idea where it came from. A cool rock track though.
10. Ryan Adams & The Cardinals – “Cobwebs”: I love the way this song starts out. Doesn’t sound like Ryan Adams at first. A good one from Cardinology.
11. The Figgs – “He Always Knows”: This sounds like its off the Van Wilder or American Pie soundtrack, but its cool–I like.
12. Mute Math – “Plan B”: This one is actually off their original EP titled “Reset, one of their best songs.
13. Elliot Smith – “Between The Bars”: A great song from an incredible songwriter.
14. Vampire Weekend – “Campus”: You have to spread out listening times on these guys. They get old quick, but before they do, they’re awesome!
15. The Album Leaf – “Eastern Glow”: Another great one from The O.C. Just a chill song. Awesome!

Enjoy!

Man! It’s been a dramatic day in Tigertown today! Head coach Tommy Bowden was fired. WR Coach Dabo Sweeney was named Interim Head Coach. Then he decides to fire Offensive Coordinator Rob Spence. This is like Days Of Our Lives. I can just hear the theme music now. What will happen next!! Will Brad Scott survive the witch hunt? Who will be the next coach?

Turn in next time! Same Tiger time! Same Tiger channel!

OK I was crazy lazy last week, and didn’t review my Albums of the Day. Here’s what they were:
Robin Thicke – The Evolution Of
The Blakes – The Blakes
Amos Lee – Supply And Demand
all good albums, sorry for the slackness.

Anyways on to today’s album.

Song Recommendations: Wish I Was Dead Pt. 2 (Shout Out Louds), Hide And Seek (Imogen Heap), Na Na Na Na Naah (Kaiser Chiefs), Requiem For O.M.M (Of Montreal), Daft Punk Is Playing At My House (LCD Soundsystem), Rock & Roll Queen (The Subways)

I’m sure I have mentioned this a few times, The O.C. was a crappy show (I lie–I was actually a big fan), but put out some great music that pretty much got me into a lot of indie music. It’s a lot of random songs from bands that you probably haven’t heard. So its good for broadening your musical horizons, which everyone could use. It includes the very well known Hide And Seek from Imogen Heap which is an incredible track. To the other end of the spectrum with LCD Soundsystem’s “Daft Punk Is Playing At My House” which is also excellent. So listen, and you could discover something new for your listening pleasure. Check it out!

Enjoy!

1. Rage Against The Machine – “Sleep Now In The Fire”: Let’s start it out with an awesome track. Love the effects that guitarist Tom Morrello does on the solo.
2. Orbital – “Lasts Forever”: This kindof mixes up quotes from the movie The Beach into a kindof dance/techno tune. Kinda reminds me of that Moby track thats cool…Porcelin I think.
3. The Spinto Band – “Oh Mandy”: Kindof weirdly has a U2 sound at the beginning. U2 with a mandolin of course. Cool indie track.
4. Robin Thicke – “Magic”: This kinda sounds like an Isaac Hayes track. It’s from smooth vanilla Robin Thicke. Pretty sweet.
5. Pete Yorn – “Murray”: One of the many excellent tracks off of Pete Yorn’s debut album musicforthemorningafter. If you don’t believe me, download it.
6. Velvet Revolver – “Fall To Pieces”: You’d think I’d be sick of this song, but it doesn’t get old for some reason. It rocks. I really like Slash’s solo.
7. The Hives – “Tick Tick Boom”: All of this band’s tunes sound the same. But they are all high energy raw british rock anthems. Very cool.
8. Kings of Leon – “Sex On Fire”: I talked about this band the other day, and this album gets better and better the more you listen.
9. Okkervil River- “For Real”: Man, this is back-to-back weeks on the mix for Okkervil River. Well they deserve it. This is a great song that I just discovered.
10. Anberlin – “Feel Good Drag”: First single off of their new release, New Surrender. Cool Alt-Rock Christian band.
11. Soulsavers – “Spiritual”: I randomly came across this one today. Kinda depressing, but I like it for some reason. Also kinda sounds like a U2 song.
12. Snow Patrol – “Open Your Eyes”: This band puts out some good music. This is one of my favorites.
13. Orange – “No Rest For The Weekend”: Kindof a Strokes kindof sound. That garage band sound. Very OC, which is actually where I heard it.
14. Ben Folds – “Brainwascht”: I know I raved about this album yesterday. This is probably my favorite of the album, but they are all good really.
15. Field Music – “A House Is Not A Home”: Another indie one I just discovered on my iPod today. Pretty cool. I like the piano combined with the 70s sounding guitar. Checks it out!

Enjoy!

Song Recommendations: You Don’t Know Me, Brainwascht, The Frown Song, Kylie From Connecticut, Cologne, Errant Dog, Dr. Yang

I was just reading some reviews of this album, and I have to say that I disagree. Maybe because I haven’t listened for 24 hours straight yet, but I think its the return of some classic Ben Folds. Angry, happy, soft, fast, ridiculous and hilarious are all comments I’ve had on the tracks. It may not be Rockin’ The Suburbs (but what is?), but it’s definitely an upgrade from Songs for Silverman. Not to say that it was a bad album, it just was a bit boring for what I expect from Ben Folds. This collection of tracks is the epitemy of why I like Ben Folds. He can have some awesome melodies about a town called Effington, talking about how his dog got out, and how an ex went nuts. Who does that? Ben Folds. Check it out now!

Enjoy!

For Tuesday

Song Recommendations: Sex On Fire, Use Somebody, Closer, Manhattan, Notion, Be Somebody

Another good album from Kings of Leon. They do seem to be evolving. Kinda getting away from their original sound, which was kindof a raw garage rock style. This album doesn’t exactly sound like the same band that put out the tracks Molly’s Chambers & Taper Jean Girl, but that’s not to say that they have changed for the bad. This album is more mellow, but contains plenty of great tracks to go around. Sex On Fire goes down as one of my favorites from the band (Great title also). So I can tell they are experimenting a little bit, but they still sound like Kings of Leon. A fantastic band, that if you haven’t checked them out, I highly recommend you do soon. Check it out!

Enjoy!

For Monday

Song Recommendations: Greedy Fly, Bonedriven, Straigh No Chaser, Mouth, Swallowed, Tendency To Start Fires, Personal Holloway

The second and not quite as succesful second album from Bush. I will always remember the video for Greedy Fly as being semi-nightmarish. I also like the different side to Bush. The two songs with the string section, Bonedriven and Straight No Chaser. Most of the album had the usual grungy alternative Bush sound, but these two songs set the album apart, for me anyways. I also thought tracks Tendency To Start Fires and Personal Holloway were pretty rockin’, but never really recognized. I personally have only owned this one and their first release, Sixteen Stone (which I cannot find unfortunately). I’m not sure if these guys are still together, but they need to because apparently Gavin cannot do it on his own (Not a fan of his solo album). Check it out if you want a flashback of 12 years!

Enjoy!
